How many times a day do you look in the mirror? How many times at day do you smile at people? How many times a day do you smile at yourself? I asked myself these questions once and realized that although I gave my smile to others all day long, I rarely smiled at myself.
Today is Valentine’s Day. This month is dedicated to Love. I decided it’s best for me this year to focus on Self Love, the most important love of all, the one that feeds all the others.
Throughout all my healing arts training and research, I’ve found one practice to be the most powerful for generating self-love. It’s mirror work. First made popular by Louise Hay, the celebrated self-help author, mirror work is when you look at yourself in the mirror lovingly.
I invite you to take on this self-love challenge for the rest of the month of February. Every time you look at yourself in the mirror, smile lovingly. Give yourself the love you so freely give to others in your beautiful smile. At least 2 times a day, spend a minute looking with deep love at yourself in the mirror and say out loud how much you love yourself. Use your name, really get into it as if you were your most precious lover!
Also, If you want to supercharge your affirmations, do them in the mirror. There is something incredibly powerful about looking into your own eyes as you affirm your own qualities and what you want to manifest in your life.
If you can, get into a really relaxed state before doing the affirmations and mirror work. Meditate or progressively relax each body part and watch your deep slow breath, then do the affirmations and mirror work. This way you will be communicating more with your subconscious mind, the part of your mind that is in control about 95% of the time. We have thousands of thoughts in each blink of an eye. We can only consciously process so much of them. The rest goes into the vault of the subconscious. It’s important to work directly with the subconscious whenever you can to reprogram some of the garbage beliefs in there.
At first you will probably feel weird, silly, fake, or even angry doing the mirror work. This is normal. The practice is so powerful that it will bring up STUFF. Just keep breathing and keep looking into your eyes and telling yourself you love yourself. It will start to work miracles in your life, the more you keep up with this practice.
Please write below in the comments what you will say to yourself in the mirror, and report back to let us all know how it has affected you. Please share this important LOVE message with friends and family.
If you would love more help in the self love arena, please consider hypnotherapy, where we will work directly with your subconscious mind. Right now I’m offering a special on hypnotherapy sessions. Book three sessions and receive $45 off! Offer good till end of March.
Happy Valentine’s Day!

The model is my lovely son, Koru. He obviously loves himself very much. It is such a joy to see him delight in himself in the mirror. We can all learn from this untethered adoration!
